Overview
The Connected Logger is an ECE- and RED-certified smart data-logging device that captures and stores data from multiple machine buses, CAN and LIN. Its native Android app is used to configure and maintain the hardware in the field.
The app discovers and securely pairs with the logger over BLE, streams CAN signals and vehicle events in real time, tracks GPS position and exports flash logs. Logs are stored offline-first, and MQTT carries lightweight messaging between the devices and the Spoke Zone cloud server. The Android app is published on Google Play as Conn.Logger, with an iOS version on the App Store.
My contributions
- Implemented BLE (GATT) device discovery, secure pairing and live CAN J1939 / OBD-II signal streaming.
- Built a reactive live dashboard for CAN signals and vehicle events in Jetpack Compose.
- Designed the Room persistence layer with schema migrations for offline log storage and backend sync.
- Implemented MQTT messaging between the devices and the Spoke Zone cloud server.
- Automated Google Play delivery with Fastlane and GitHub Actions, backed by JUnit/Mockito unit tests and Espresso/UI Automator UI tests.
